Formula One Teams Association (FOTA) President, Luca di Montezemolo, is convinced that yesterday's meeting with FIA President Max Mosley was a step in the right direction, as the sport looks to a greener and more economical future.
Di Montezemolo, who is also President of Ferrari, one of the ten teams that comprises FOTA, was joined by Toyota boss John Howett, at the meeting in Geneva.
While details of the meeting have not been made public, other than a brief joint statement proclaiming that "significant cost savings for 2009 and 2010" had been agreed, di Montezemolo revealed: "Next year we will lengthen the life of engines to three races. This will translate into a total of 25 engines that for the smaller teams will cost 10m euros (£7.8m) a season."
"Finally we will have an economical Formula One," he told Gazzetta dello Sport, adding: "We have decided that we will meet again with Mr Mosley after Brazil to talk again about limits to the chassis and engines in the future."
