Nick Heidfeld has been handed a three-place grid penalty following an incident that occurred during today's qualifying session.

Race Stewards in Singapore have handed the German a three-place penalty after the BMW driver was adjudged to have impeded Rubens Barrichello.

The incident happened when the Brazilian, who was on a flying lap, was forced to abort his lap, and head into the pits, after closing in on Heidfeld, who had slowed in order to enter the pits.

The pitlane entrance and exit has received much criticism since the opening practice sessions, and despite modification overnight it is clear that there is still a problem.

Meanwhile, as if to further demonstrate the absurdity of the decision, and indeed the pitlane entrance, Barrichello has been fined 10,000 euros for not accessing the pits through the deceleration zone.
