With one - possibly two - vacancies at Toro Rosso next season, a number of drivers are understood to be beating a path to Gerhard Berger's door in the hopes of securing a berth.

The latest name linked with the Faenza outfit is Takuma Sato, the former Honda driver who lost his seat at Super Aguri when the Leafield-based outfit went bust earlier this season.

"If we had the chance to test with them, then we'd be delighted to do so," Sato's manager, Andrew Gilbert-Scott, told Reuters.

"We have had talks," a spokesperson confirmed, "but there is nothing to confirm yet."

Berger has confirmed that GP2 racer Sebastien Buemi is to undergo an evaluation with the team next month. However, with the Faenza-based outfit seeking serious sponsorship as (Red Bull owner) Dietrich Mateschitz seeks to sever the financial ties, Sato, who is highly popular in Japan, and was the reason for Super Aguri being set up in the first place, must also make an attractive prospect.

With Sebastian Vettel already committed to Red Bull, Toro Rosso has yet to reveal whether Sebastien Bourdais is to retain his seat.
