Ron Dennis ended months of speculation today when he announced that he would remain as team principal at McLaren.

The Englishman revealed the news at his team's Woking HQ in a special pre-season address to the assembled members of the team.

In recent weeks there has been mounting speculation regarding the 60-year-old's future following a number of problems both on and off the race-track.

Although Dennis has admitted to handing over much of the day to day running of the McLaren empire to Martin Whitmarsh, he is to remain at the helm of the F1 team he bought in 1980.

Having sold portions of the company to Mercedes-Benz and Bahrain's Mumtalakat Holding Company, Dennis retains a 15% stake in the company, as does Mansour Ojjeh.
