Despite previous claims that there would not be an official launch for McLaren's 2008 contender, the MP4-23, the car will now be given a high profile unveiling at the Mercedes-Benz museum in Stuttgart on Monday January 7, the day after 2007 World Champion Ferrari launches its car.

Confirming its 2008 driver line-up earlier this month, McLaren said there were currently "no plans for a launch presentation". However, possibly at the insistence of Mercedes and the Woking team's various sponsors, there has now been a change of heart.

The MP4-23 will make its track debut at Jerez the following day (Tuesday), when Heikki Kovalainen, making his McLaren debut, is scheduled to drive the car.

This year, with an exciting all-new driver line-up, new sponsors and new livery, the Woking team held a high profile launch in Valencia, followed by a street event later that evening.

A few years back, McLaren held a launch at London's Alexander Palace, where The Spice Girls and Jamiroquai formed part of the evening's line-up.
