Talking to Corriere dello Sport, Giancarlo Fisichella's manager Enrico Zanarini, claims that the Italian veteran is still holding out hope of being retained by Renault for a fourth season. Indeed, Zanarini insists that Fisichella is one of the many drivers whose plans are on hold as Fernando Alonso decides his (short term) future.

"The situation will untangle when Renault makes its decision," said Zanarini. "It's a matter of choices. When Renault decides, we will know a bit more.

"However, once rumours of a possible return by Alonso began, we started looking around," he admitted.

Asked if Fisichella has any preferences for next season, Zanarini said: "None. There have been discussions with the teams that have a free seat, but there are no ongoing deal talks. In any case we await a decision by Renault."

However, according to Pitpass' sources, there is no chance of Fisichella driving for Renault in 2008, with an insider informing us that "Giancarlo's kit has been collected and removed" from Enstone.

Indeed, our source claims that Nelson Piquet Jr had been given the nod for 2008 as early as May this year, while at one time there was talk of the Brazilian replacing Fisichella for the final three races of 2007.
