As expected, the World Motor Sport Council has rubber-stamped plans to hold the maiden Singapore Grand Prix as a night race.

Following the FIA's official confirmation that the race will be held at night next September, Singapore GP Pte Ltd, organizers of the event, issued a brief statement.

"With two positive lighting tests under our belt, we are on track to delivering the first night race," said Colin Syn, deputy chairman of the promoters.

In addition to being a night race, the event will take place on public roads around the Marina Bay area, causing the race to be dubbed ' Asia's answer to the Monaco GP.

The city-state has agreed a five-year deal with Formula One Management.
