In a statement which hopefully belies the true team ethos, Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo has said that he would be delighted to see his team win the World Championship by default should McLaren be thrown out of the championship on Thursday.
Speaking to reporters at the Frankfurt Auto Show, the Italian said: "It would be a victory richly deserved. If we win the world championship over a table it would be deserved because the ones who lose would have won it in a way which was not correct, not loyal and not sport.
"It is an awful story," he added, referring to the saga which has dominated the sport for much of the summer. "When things go bad the less you speak of it the better. All that interests us above all is that this story is over in a hurry and ends with the truth."
That it end in a hurry is a sentiment with which we all concur. However, whether we get to hear the truth is another matter entirely.
