Following Nico Rosberg's heavy crash at Barcelona this morning, Williams has opted to head home early, missing out on this afternoon's session and the extra day tomorrow.

The German crashed heavily just after Turn 6 this morning, effectively writing off the car which had previously been rebuilt following Kazuki Nakajima's accident on Monday.

This morning's accident was down to driver error with Rosberg losing the back end after riding the kerb at a point where there is no kitty litter just grass , he missed the tyre barriers went backwards into a solid concrete wall. The incident is sure to draw the attention of the Grand Prix Drivers' Association (GPDA).

Though unhurt, Rosberg was taken to a local hospital as a precaution.

With the team heading back to Grove, this means that Williams has only covered 90 laps ahead of next weekend's Spanish Grand Prix.

Conditions at the Spanish track are ideal today, following almost constant rainfall on Tuesday.

Felipe Massa topped the timesheets at lunchtime, ahead of Mark Webber and Fernando Alonso.
