Speaking in Bahrain, ahead of this weekend's Grand Prix, Nick Heidfeld has said that he want to sort out his contract for 2008 as soon as possible, admitting that he hopes to remain with BMW.

Although he was thought to have a three year deal with the German team, the reality is that that 2008 is an option, which means BMW could opt not to take him up on it. Although the former F3000 champion has earned all 10 points that currently have the team third in the championship, there is growing speculation that the team envisages Robert Kubica and Sebastian Vettel as its driver next season.

The fact that Heidfeld doesn't have a guaranteed drive with the German team for next season has probably been partly responsible for some of his comments in recent weeks, particularly regarding BMW's policy of running Vettel in the Friday practice sessions.

"I would like to have it sorted out sooner than later." he told reporters today, referring to his contract for next season. "I don't want to wait too long, indeed, the earlier the better.

"I think I am in a good position," he added. "I like it very much here."
