News that F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone has made a stop-off in Singapore while en-route to Melbourne has fuelled further speculation regarding the possibility of a new entry on the Formula One calendar.

The Englishman arrived late on Monday night, though he was giving nothing away. When asked the reason for the visit he replied "I don't know," according to the Straits Times, before adding; "but that's what I'm here for."

It's believed that Ecclestone subsequently had dinner with hotel magnate Ong Beng Seng, one of a number of Singapore entrepreneurs seeking to host an F1 race in the country.
