Maldonado completes Trident line-up

Pastor Maldonado has been confirmed as Kohei Hirate's team-mate at Trident Racing for 2007. The Venezuelan tested for the team at the tail end of 2006, after also impressing in tests for BCN Competicion.

"After reviewing all the proposals that I had for 2007, I think we have made the best decision in signing with Trident," said Maldonado. "They are a very professional team with which we are going to work hard to fight for the top positions in GP2."

Trident Racing have made the brave decision to field two rookie drivers in the series in 2007, following an incredible debut year in which the took three wins en route to sixth in the teams' championship.

Pastor has stated his aims clearly on entering the GP2 series, that his aim is to reach Formula One, with the Venezuelan caliming he is already talking to F1 teams with a view to fulfilling a testing role.

"We are in the final phase of the talks and we will make a decision based on who offers the best conditions, although both offers that we have are very tempting," he said.

Pastor was a race winner and championship contender in the World Series last year, eventually missing out on the title to Alx Danielsson.
