Hot on the heels of South Korea signing up to host a round of the Formula One World Championship from 2010 comes news that the country's leading car maker, Hyundai, is seeking to enter the sport with its own team.

According to the online version of German publication Automobilwoche, provisional talks with F1 supremo have already taken place, while the company's Europe manager, Gerry Dorizas, though unable to confirm the F1 story, added: "I know only that we will start a new motorsport engagement in the rally field in 2008."

When announcing the South Korean Grand Prix deal - ironically, sealed the day before North Korea carried out its controversial nuclear test - Bernie Ecclestone promised that he would help to encourage Korean drivers in the hope of persuading a Korean team to one day enter the sport... much as we have seen Bahraini, Turkish and Chinese drivers brought into F1.
