NEWS STORY

Respected motoring journalist, writer, and former F1 driver, Paul Frere (pictured here with Eoin Young) has been injured in an accident near the Nurburgring.

Details are somewhat sketchy, but it appears the 89-year-old was road testing a Honda Civic Type-R, when he was involved in a collision with another vehicle.

He was taken to a Frankfurt hospital with several broken ribs, a shattered pelvis and two punctured lungs. The good news is that the prognosis is good and he is expected to return home in next month

Frere raced as a semi professional, in a 15-year career that included 11 World Championship Grands Prix - his best result being second in the 1955 Belgian GP at Spa - and a number of Sports Car events, including a win at Le Mans in 1960 with Olivier Gendebien.

He also appeared, as a driver, in the 1966 movie Grand Prix.

Pitpass wishes him a speedy recovery.
