European and San Marino GPs dropped for 2007

NEWS STORY

As widely predicted, both the San Marino Grand Prix at Imola, and the European Grand Prix at the Nurburgring, are missing from the provisional calendar issued by the FIA this morning.

The schedule only gives details of the Grands Prix and proposed dates, so it is unclear at this time whether the German Grand Prix will take place at Hockenheim or the Nurburgring, since there has been talk of the two circuits sharing the race.

With extensive work being carried out at Imola, it is quite possible that the San Marino race could be re-instated, especially as there is a one month gap between the Bahrain and Spanish events.

The good news, is that after being dropped in 2006 - despite being voted one of race fans' favourite circuits in the FIA's 2005 survey - Spa Francorchamps is back on the calendar.

In total, there are five back-to-back race weekends.
