Mass dampers back in the news

Mass dampers are back in the news again, with Toro Rosso found to be running such a device, which scrutineers in Hungary subsequently asked the Italian team to remove.

The order to remove the device comes just days after the FIA said that it would not punish teams (retrospectively) which ran with the device in Hungary, a move which prompted Renault to announce that it would therefore refit the controversial system to its cars. Just one week ago, in Germany, stewards declared mass dampers legal, a decision which the FIA subsequently appealed.

As a result of the Toro Rosso decision, it is understood that Renault is now considering running without mass dampers this weekend.
