The FIA has, this morning (Thursday), issued the following press release: "following a fax vote, the World Motor Sport Council has approved the Formula One Commission's proposed changes to the 2006 and 2007 Formula One Sporting Regulations.

The changes for the 2006 regulations will come into effect this weekend at the French Grand Prix."

This means that from this weekend the third phase of the qualifying session will be reduced to fifteen minutes, while in the first two phases drivers who begin a lap before the chequered flag is waved signalling the end of the 15-minute session, will be allowed to complete the lap.

As far as 2007 is concerned, there will be no third drivers next season.
