A1 Team Malaysia announced today that it would carry out a 5-lap demonstration drive of the A1 Team Malaysia car at the Japan GT event at Sepang International Circuit this Sunday 25 June.

The A1 Team Malaysia car driven to victory by Alex Yoong at the Shanghai International Circuit on 2 April 2006 has been in Malaysia since early May and has been on show at various locations in order to show the car to as many fans and followers of the series and the team as possible.

A1GP chassis number 41 was used throughout the inaugural A1 Grand Prix World Cup of Motorsport season. The car was driven by both Alex Yoong and Fairuz Fauzy resulting in A1 Team Malaysia finishing 5th overall in the World Cup of Motorsport.

The team has had an A1 3.4 litre V8 engine specially flown out for the event. It is currently being fitted into the car at the Proton 'Centre of Excellence' state-of-the art car servicing workshop in Shah Alam.

Alex Yoong, just back in Malaysia from competing in the 24 hours of Le Mans event, where he was awarded 'Rookie of the Year' said, "We were asked by the management of Sepang International Circuit whether we would be prepared to put the car on display at the circuit during the Japan GT weekend and we thought we could go one better than that. So, on Sunday afternoon I will do a few laps in front of the crowd to remind them to be supporting A1 Team Malaysia as we prepare for our second A1 season!"

The car will leave Malaysia the following day for the UK in order to be fully prepared for the A1 season opener at Zandvoort, the Netherlands, on 1 October 2006, preceded by the official A1 testing in August at Silverstone, UK.

Jack Cunningham, Chief Executive, A1 Team Malaysia, "The A1 Team Malaysia car is being run to remind all race fans of the next major 4-wheel event at Sepang, which is the A1 Grand Prix of Nations event taking place in November 2006, and of the Malaysian team in particular. The Malaysian fans were very supportive of the Team at last years A1 race, wearing the yellow supporters shirts sponsored by The Berjaya Group. This is an opportunity to thank the fans for their support and give them a taste of what's to come in the next season."
