The FIA has revealed that 22 teams, almost double the amount that will be permitted to enter, have submitted entries for the 2008 Formula One World Championship.

In a brief statement issued on Friday afternoon, at the close of the '2008 commitment window', the FIA revealed that the 22 applicants will be invited to a meeting in London on April 10.

Under intense questioning, a spokesperson for the FIA refused to reveal the identity of the entrants, other than the existing 11 teams, and those that have already publicly admitted to submitting an entry, such as Prodrive and Paul Stoddart.
