According to (usually) reliable sources in the German media, Nicholas Tombazis, McLaren's Vehicle Project Director, is leaving the Woking team just 18 months after joining.

It's understood that Tombazis, who began his F1 career with Benetton, then joined Ferrari as chief-aerodynamicist, has already left McLaren, though his final destination in unknown.

There are rumours that he might follow Adrian Newey to Red Bull, while Ferrari has made no secret of the fact that it would be eager to have him back on board.

The move will have no immediate effect on McLaren since the 2006 car is already in production. However, it remains to be seen what these two high-profile departures will have in the long term.
