Talking to Pitpass editor, Chris Balfe, at Silverstone in May, following the shakedown of the A1 GP car by Pedro Lamy, BusinessF1 Editor-in-Chief, Tom Rubython, admitted that he thought it unlikely that many race fans would be willing to attend an Autumnal meeting at Brands Hatch for a new, totally unproven, race series.

"I can't see them getting twenty-thousand," he said. "I just can't see it."

With hours to go before the first free practice session, Pitpass can reveal that over seventy thousand tickets have been sold, with all grandstand seating selling out several weeks ago.

"It's amazing, the public can see what we're doing here, they are sharing the dream," Sheikh Maktoum told Pitpass, "the place is going to be packed out, like in the old days."

Advance tickets sales have surpassed the previous record set by the World Superbike Championship in August.
