Despite what Red Bull might think of France, Magny-Cours, and indeed the French Grand Prix, this weekend the Formula One 'circus' - never has the term seemed as appropriate - returns to the country that gave us Grand Prix racing, and hosted the first ever motor race, though in reality, more of a reliability trial.

In a Gallic edition of his popular Grand Prix Quiz, Geoff 'The Zurich Gnome' Collins looks back at the 2004, 1984 and 1950 events.

Now, we're sure you'll recall who missed out on a podium position last year when he was overtaken 200m before the finish, and you'll probably be aware of how many retirements there were due to mechanical causes.

However, who was excluded from qualifying in 1984 because his fire extinguisher was found to be empty, and which English driver finished third in a privately entered Ferrari in 1950?
