90 minutes to go and no solution

With ninety minutes remaining before the United States Grand Prix is due to get underway, it is still unclear as to whether the event will take place.

At 17:30 (BST) (11:30 local time) the teams were in a meeting with F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone. However, as Michelin continued to argue the case for a chicane to be placed at Turn 13, the FIA's race director and safety delegate, Charlie Whiting, is understood to have walked out.

Ecclestone is keen to see the race go ahead, even if the result is not finally decided until months down the line, as its cancellation could well be the death knell for F1 in the USA.

However, Michelin is understood to be urging its partner teams to boycott the event if a suitable solution cannot be found.
