Honda, which owns 45% of the BAR team, has announced that it has accepted the punishment handed out to the Brackley outfit following last week's International Court of Appeal.

Tatsuya Iida, spokesman for the Japanese giant, told Reuters: "We felt the punishment was too harsh but any appeal now would only be bad for the sport.

"We had just got the car to perform to expectations so the timing of the ban is a big blow," he added. "It's very sad."

On Monday, the FIA revealed that BAR could face further sanctions if it continued to force the issue and refused to accept the punishment.
