Due to a "defect" (exhaust valve) found on the BMW engines due to be used this weekend, Mark Webber will not run on Friday.

The Australian was due to use a new engine, having used the same unit in Bahrain and Imola. As he awaits a new engine specification unit from BMW, the Australian will not contest Friday's practice sessions.

Nick Heidfeld will contest today's sessions, apparently using the engine he used at Imola. However, he will also receive a new unit on Saturday, which means he will forfeit ten places on the grid on Sunday.

"The faulty exhaust valve could cause retirement in the race," admitted Mario Theissen, "therefore we have decided not to take that risk. At present two engines of a new specification are being assembled in Munich. We will bring them to Barcelona and install them in the cars prior to the third free practice on Saturday."

Not the ideal start to the weekend for WilliamsF1, BMW, Mark Webber or Nick Heidfeld.
