Stoddart prepares to launch OzJet

NEWS STORY

Minardi boss, Paul Stoddart, is about to launch his new airline, however, contrary to previous reports OzJet will not be a budget, no-frills, airline, not in the usual context.

OzJet was first conceived around 18 months ago as an Australian budget airline based on the popular Ryanair model, offering cheap tickets, non-assigned seating, quick turnaround of aircraft between flights and the use of regional airports reasonably close to major cities rather than main hub airports.

Since then however, Paul Stoddart has spotted a niche in the market, and one that he is hoping to fill. OzJet is not attempting to launch into the overcrowded Australian budget airline market but will instead offer business class accommodation and service at economy class fares. Furthermore, OzJet will use regional airports which will help to keep costs down.

There is obviously a place for budget airlines, where you accept being treated like cattle in exchange for low ticket prices, but think there is also a place for an airline that treats you decently in exchange for a somewhat higher-priced ticket.

We think Paul is on to a winner.
