War of words takes a new turn

Sadly, it appears that F1 is heading towards some sort of showdown in the weeks ahead.

While the FIA admits that Minardi driver Patrick Friesacher is eligible for a superlicence, official approval still has to be given. And there's the rub.

Due to the time constraints - the Australian GP weekend kicks off in 15 days - a fax vote of the Formula One Commission is required if Friesacher is to get his licence.

However, Paul Stoddart, in his position as spokesman for the nine 'rebel' teams has questioned the legality of fax votes, claiming that they are not mentioned in the Concorde Agreement.

Depending on how you look at it, the situation is looking graver/sillier with each passing day.

Sadly, it is a promising youngster's F1 debut that hangs in the balance.
