F1 to return to Mexico in 2006

According to the French news agency AFP, F1 will return to Mexico in 2006, after a break of fourteen years.

The event will be held at a new purpose-built track in Cancun.

The local governor, Joaquin Hendricks, revealed the news following negotiations with F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone.

It's understood that a formal statement will be issued on Monday, following the Brazilian Grand Prix, last round of the 2004 world championship season.
