The trouble with April Fool spoofs

NEWS STORY
04/04/2006

Despite falling on a weekend, that didn't prevent the media taking full advantage of April Fools day.

Newspapers and websites ran spoof stories, some far more plausible than others.

Sadly, the team at Sportbusiness.com appear to have fallen for one of the myriad of spoofs that appeared on Saturday.

On Monday, Sportbusiness announced that: "NASCAR chiefs have signed a new deal with Daytona Beach officials to ensure the series will be racing at the legendary venue until November 2054", however, the news item then claimed that the announcement "comes hot on the heels of news that International Speedway Corp - the NASCAR company which operates the track - will host the Formula One US Grand Prix at the circuit from 2007".

This was clearly based on an April Fool that appeared on the web on Saturday stating that the United States Grand Prix is moving to Florida next season, which will surely came as a surprise to the folk at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, who have said that a decision will be made as to the future of the US Grand Prix at Indy after this year's race.

Or could it be that it is Bernie who has pulled a fast one?
