Jordan denies buy-out story

NEWS STORY
01/12/2004

It seems, not for the first time, that The Sunday Times has 'jumped the gun'.

Earlier in the year it reported that a buy-out of the Jordan F1 team by a consortium representing the Dubai royal family, was only days away from being concluded. As Pitpass had always predicted, it never happened.

Last week the paper once again said that a deal was on the verge of being signed, this time by Christian Horner, of Arden International, who was said to be buying the team in conjunction with a "Chinese consortium".

Jordan has today denied that the team has been sold, or is even in serious discussions regarding a buy-out.

"Jordan has always held ongoing discussions with parties interested in investing in the team's future competitiveness," a spokesperson told Pitpass. "We are pushing on with the 2005 campaign and the positive news in securing Toyota engines and Mark Smith returning to the team as Technical Director strengthens our commercial negotiations with potential sponsors and drivers."

Meanwhile, Nicky Samengo-Turner, financial adviser to Arden and Horner, who told the newspaper that final negotiations with the Jordan shareholders were taking place and that the deal "is very close to being signed", has denied two charges relating to him possessing a penknife and baton in his briefcase.

At a brief hearing at Bow Street Magistrates' Court in London, Mr Samengo-Turner pleaded not guilty to one charge of possessing a bladed or pointed instrument in a public place and one charge of possessing an offensive weapon in public.

On a totally different topic, anyone remember The Godfather... or indeed the song by Jimmy Helms?
