Valtteri Bottas has been handed a grid penalty following an incident during FP2.

The Finn was summoned by the stewards after it was claimed he overtook Felipe Nasa between turns 5 and 6 whilst red flags were being shown following Fernando Alonso's engine issue which saw the Spaniard park his McLaren by the side of the track.

Having spoken to Bottas and a team representative, and studied video evidence, the Finn was handed a 3-place grid penalty and 2 penalty points.

Bottas admitted he overtook Nasr under red flags, a breach of Appendix H, Article 2.4.4.1 of the International Sporting Code.

The stewards in applying the penalty took into consideration that despite the considerable speed difference between the cars, the Finn could have avoided overtaking under the red flag.
