Fernando Alonso has been back in action in the McLaren simulator today.

As part of his preparations for his anticipated return to action at Sepang next week, the two-time world champion has been in the simulator at the MTC today, driving the Malaysia track.

"Good day in the sim for @alo_oficial, focusing on operational work & practising qualifying & race procedures," the team tweeted.

"Great day today at MTC!" added the Spaniard. "Lots of meetings and simulator work!"

It is the first time the Spaniard has sat in an F1 cockpit of any kind since his crash during testing at Barcelona last month, a crash that remains shrouded in mystery.

However, whilst the simulator is able to replicate the various bumps and poundings Alonso will encounter at the Sepang International Circuit it does not take into account the high humidity that he will need to endure.

Having missed the season opener on the advice of his doctors it is understood Alonso faces further check-ups before being given the green light, this will include a number of standard medical tests usually run by the FIA. However, the FIA tests will take place before he is scheduled to leave for Malaysia so that, in the event of him failing, he does not have a wasted journey.
