Officials investigating the skiing accident which has left Michael Schumacher fighting for his life are examining his helmet camera for further insight into what happened.

As the official investigation continues, other than examining the Go-Pro camera, which was fixed to the helmet, which split in two under the force of the impact, the authorities have also questioned Schumacher's son Mick and a friend who witnessed the incident.

Initial misreporting and speculation that the German was skiing at excessive speed off piste have now given way to the claim that the seven-time world champion hit a rock covered by fresh snow after going off piste to aid the young daughter of a friend who had fallen.

After two operations, the German, who is in an induced coma, remains "critical but stable".

On Friday, his 45th birthday, hundreds of fans paid a silent vigil outside the Grenoble hospital where he is being treated, his family later admitting that it had been moved to tears by the tribute which went on until late in the night and included a special '45. Schumi: Stay Strong, Keep Fighting' message projected onto the facade of the hospital.
