Problems in Sochi?

Days before the WMSC issues the official provisional calendar for 2014, which is due to include Sochi, a state of emergency has been declared in the region.

Five months before the opening of the Winter Olympics, and ahead of the official torch lighting ceremony, the neighbouring village of Kepsha has been evacuated due to flooding and mudslides.

While a state of emergency has been declared, officials claim the threat is receding, however, it remains to be seen what damage had been done and whether there is a repeat.

Alexander Zhukov, the head of the Russian Olympic Committee, told Rossiya-24 that he is certain Sochi will be ready for the Games, which open on February 7, in an interview broadcast earlier today.

Work on the Olympic site and the Grand Prix track, which uses much of the Olympic Park, has been plagued by problems mostly due to the weather in the region which lies on the edge of the Black Sea and which is overshadowed by the Caucasus mountains.

Anyone thinking what we're thinking....
