Lowe to Mercedes?

As the F1 world comes to grips with the shock recruitment of Williams Chief Executive Toto Wolff, who has also acquired a significant minority interest in the team, it is being reported that Paddy Lowe is heading from Woking to Brackley.

The claim comes courtesy of Germany's Bild, which in the last 24 hours has broken the news regarding Toto Wolff's move from Williams to Mercedes and Timo Glock and Marussia parting company.

Though the move has yet to be confirmed (or denied) by Mercedes - when asked by Pitpass, McLaren issued a firm "no comment" - if true it raises the question as to what is happening with current Mercedes Technical Director Bob Bell, not to mention Technology Director Geoff Willis and Aldo Costa, the former Ferrari Technical Director who joined Mercedes in late 2011 as Engineering Director. And then there's Ross Brawn.

Lowe's F1 carer began at Williams in 1987 where he was in charge of the active suspension programme which played a major role in helping Nigel Mansell win the 1992 title. In 1993 he moved to McLaren as Head of Research and Development. In 2005 he was appointed Engineering Director before being promoted to the role of Technical Director in 2011. He has also represented McLaren on the FIA and FOTA technical boards.
