McLaren Applied Technologies (MAT) has launched a Performance Academy for aspiring young drivers, which will assist them in the development of their skills in order to help them reach their full potential within motorsport.

The Academy - which will be hosted at the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking - aims to select a small number of dedicated young drivers between the ages of 13-17, and provide them with a programme of education and support which will help to hone their talents. Aside from being at the top of their game, all participants are required to be MSA licence holders and will be selected based on their previous experience and future goals.

"McLaren Applied Technologies is proud to be launching the Performance Academy as a means of informing, training and inspiring the next generation of motorsport champions," said Clayton Green, Manager of the Human Performance Programme. "Through its ongoing work with UK Sport and Team GB, MAT has developed unique and innovative ways of measuring and improving sporting performance, and this expertise will be brought to bear in the development of these talented young drivers."

The programme, which will run between 21st - 22nd February 2013, includes a series of educational workshops and physical training sessions that offer a one-of-a-kind insight into the blend of technologies, knowledge and best practice that drive motorsport success. Led by a team of experts, including professionals from the world-renowned Vodafone McLaren Mercedes Formula 1 team, these sessions will focus on the following four areas:

Assessment

Pre-race preparation

In-race performance

Post-race review and recovery

In addition to the two-day practical course, participants will also receive a further follow-on session and a monthly feedback programme throughout the following year, to enable ongoing assessment - and improvement - in performance.

The Performance Academy will accept a maximum of 20 participants, and all applications will be considered on merit.
