While some continue to claim that in moving to Mercedes Lewis Hamilton is throwing away his career, committing professional suicide, the Englishman insists he is relishing the task ahead.

"It makes me even more driven to help them score points," he told reporters ahead of Sunday's Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, one of his final three races with McLaren the team with which he has spent his F1 career thus far.

"I'm very happy with the decision I made," he continued. "It doesn't impact on that. People do sometimes lose their way, even we have struggled in the past, and not scored points."

Despite a maiden win for Nico Rosberg the Brackley outfit's form has slumped significantly of late and, eclipsed by Lotus, even its fifth place is now under pressure from Sauber.

"I already knew how big it was going to be," said Hamilton of the mountain he and the team seemingly have to climb if they are to take on his current team far less Red Bull and Ferrari. "I really thought about it hard, and I could see how big it was. Perhaps it's growing, but as a task I'm really excited about it, excited to meet new people and to being in a different environment, and to mould myself into that environment."
