Brawn to miss Barcelona

Mercedes team boss Ross Brawn is to miss this weekend's Spanish Grand prix after being taken ill.

The Englishman, whose team scored its first Grand Prix win last month in China, felt unwell last week and has been advised by doctors not to travel.

Wishing his a "speedy recovery" via Twitter, Mercedes confirmed the fact that the Englishman will not be present for the opening round of the European F1 season and this place will be taken by Bob Bell who ran the Renault F1 team in the wake of the Spy-gate scandal that saw Flavio Briatore and Pat Symonds walk the plank.

Brawn is expected to be back on duty in time for the Monaco Grand Prix later this month.

A keen Manchester United fan, perhaps the run in to the season finale has all been a bit too much for him. Thankfully, this weekend's crunch matches for his team, and rivals City, take place after qualifying.

We wish Ross (and United) well.
