McLaren's commitment to carbon reduction and environmental efficiency received further validation last week when it took a silver medal at the 2012 Edison Awards in New York.

Celebrating innovation and excellence for 25 years, the Edison Awards builds on the founding principles of the great American inventor Thomas Edison, and champions groundbreaking scientific achievement.

McLaren was nominated in the prestigious Green Implementation category for its groundbreaking efforts to improve its carbon efficiency. Having already earned the Carbon Trust Standard over a three-year assessment, achieved annual savings of over 1500 tonnes of CO2 emissions and earned official carbon-neutral status, the Edison silver further validates the company's mission on a global scale.

"I'm delighted that our ongoing efforts to manage and improve our carbon efficiency have been recognised by the Edison Awards judging panel," said Martin Whitmarsh. "This is a fantastic achievement for the whole team.

"The nominees' list read like a Who's Who of the great and good in the world of inspirational technical innovation, and I'm immensely proud that our team has been recognised on that list.

"While our silver medal is further validation of the steps we've made, and certainly helps showcase our efforts on a global level, it is still merely the starting point for an ongoing and concerted mission to ensure that Vodafone McLaren Mercedes conducts its business in an environmentally conscious and responsible way."

McLaren joins a host of international brand leaders, all of whom earned recognition from the Edison Awards judging panel for their ongoing commitment to technical innovation and excellence. For more information on the 2012 Edison Awards, and for a full list of winners, visit the website.
