USF1 shuts up shop

USF1 boss Ken Anderson is reported to have laid off the team's remaining members of staff, citing "serious economic and funding challenges".

The Charlotte Business Journal reports that Anderson e-mailed the remaining staff to tell them that the team had ceased operations advising that they could be re-hired if business conditions improve. In the meantime, it is understood that nine employees have filed wage complaints with the N.C. Department of Labor claiming they have not been paid.

USF1, the brainchild of Anderson and Peter Windsor, was one of the new teams due to enter the sport this season having convinced the FIA of its serious intentions and backing.

However, to many, it was clear almost from the outset, that something was amiss, and that Youtube videos, carefully placed quotes and suspicious photographs notwithstanding, there was no real substance to the team.

The Charlotte Business Journal reports that Anderson could not be reached for comment while Windsor has also been conspicuous by his absence since it became clear that the team wasn't going to make it to the grid.
