After weeks of speculation, Ferrari has this morning confirmed that MotoGP star Valentino Rossi will test for the Maranello outfit.

The Italian, who recently clinched his sixth title, tested for Ferrari in 2006 (above), at a time when there was much speculation as to whether he would follow (1964 F1 World Champion) John Surtees example and switch from two-wheels to four. However, despite impressing, Rossi opted to focus his attention of bikes.

"We are happy to give Valentino once again the opportunity to test our Formula One car," a Ferrari spokesman told reporters at Interlagos this morning. "He's a friend of Ferrari, we are friends of his and it's a nice way to celebrate his world championship and fantastic career."

Though the date of the test has not been given, the spokesman said that it would be at an Italian circuit.

Earlier this year, Rossi admitted that he still had misgivings over his decision to stay with bikes at the expense of F1.

"Regret is not the right word," he said, "but I'm a little sorry because I'm still curious to know what I would have done."
