Lee Gill has resigned as Chief Operation Officer of Donington Ventures Leisure Ltd, the group which owns the operating rights to Donington Park.

Donington was announced as the new home of the British Grand Prix just days ahead of the Silverstone race this year, Bernie Ecclestone saying at the time that "We wanted a world class venue for Formula One in Britain, something that the teams and British F1 fans could be proud of."

Development at Donington Park has recently run into trouble, caught supplying alcohol to minors and erecting structures for the recent MotoGP event which interrupted the usual operation of a nearby airport. Although an announcement was made in August that planning applications were to be lodged within weeks, nothing further has been heard of the £100 million upgrade.

Dave Fern, representing Donington Ventures Leisure Ltd, told Pitpass that the circuit is "now moving forward under the leadership of Simon Gillett," adding that "the departure of Mr Gill will have no impact on the Grand Prix."
