Pitpass has learned that of the 22 teams hoping to enter the 2008 Formula One World Championship, unsuccessful teams have been notified today.

The entrant behind one of the unsuccessful teams today told Pitpass: "I have, this morning, received notification from the FIA that the World Motor Sport Council has decided 'not to retain the candidature' of my entry for the 2008 Championship.

"Disappointing but not altogether unexpected!" he added.

However, the Telefax from Pierre de Coninck, General Secretary of the FIA (Sport), adds: "Nevertheless, should you still wish to participate in 2008, we invite you to keep in touch with the FIA, in case there will be a vacancy before the start of the championship".

The FIA will announce the 12 successful entrants next Friday, 28 April.
