The Super Aguri SA05... in case you were wondering

Following its debut at Barcelona on Tuesday, a number of readers have contacted Pitpass regarding the legality of the Super Aguri SA05, specifically regarding aerodynamics.

One reader wrote: "It seems the SA05 is simply the A23 painted white? The car is not compliant with any of the regulations. Firstly look at the rear wing, the plane must be above the rear axle making the end plates larger, we don't see this on SA05.

"Furthermore, the engine covers also are much larger now and the top edge finishes at a different height and not near the exhaust outlets. Not sure how legal the front wing is either, the question is how much work have the Super Aguri team done besides installing the new Honda v8?"

Contacted by Pitpass, the team was keen to point out that its previous press releases had quite clearly stated that the car being used this week is not the car that will appear in Bahrain.

However, Chief Technical Officer, Mark Preston told Pitpass: "The systems car that we are running in Barcelona this week during our test does not have the definitive 2006 bodywork, this will be released at Silverstone next week.

"The systems car is exactly that, a systems car. It is running the full mechanical and electronic specification that will be taken to Bahrain. This gives us the maximum time in the wind tunnel to work on downforce."

So now you know.
