As the threat of a 'split' in F1 looks ever more likely, McLaren boss, Ron Dennis, has said that contrary to popular speculation, money is not the core issue.

"The percentage weighting, as reported in the media, is that this is a 70 percent money and 30 percent regulatory issue," he told reporters at Suzuka on Saturday, "and that's wrong... It's the other way round.

"The regulatory situation is really the bit that concerns the manufacturers," he added.

Meanwhile, BMW executive board member Burkhard Goeschel, in an interview with Welt am Sonntag, warned that the constant regulation changes in F1 - driven by the FIA - are pushing up cots, at a time when the sport's governing body professes to wanting to reduce costs.
