Cooper Tires has hailed last weekend's inaugural A1GP an unprecedented sporting and entertainment success.

The first "World Cup of Motorsport" wowed a crowd of some 76,000 at Brands Hatch with 25 identical cars sporting the same Cooper slicks, A1 engines and A1 chassis. The result was a race won by driver ability rather than technology aides and budgets.

As official tyre supplier to the worldwide series, Cooper Tires underwent extensive trials across the world to develop a compound capable of dealing with a massive 550bhp output from the cars and a top speed of 170mph.

Commented Cooper Tires Director of Marketing and Motorsport Julian Baldwin, "The tyres performed superbly. The slicks allowed the drivers to overtake and although the wets were only used in qualifying, the drivers were naturally encouraged by the level of grip generated by the tyres."

Cooper Tires has been involved in motorsports in America for many years, providing tyres to the US Drift and the Cooper Tires Championship Series amongst others. Combined, Cooper-Avon racing supports over 140 championships around the world.
