In all the excitement of Saturday's qualifying session, and the subsequent Grand Prix, it was easy to overlook Vitantonio Liuzzi making a little bit of motorsport history.
With GP2 scheduled to support F1 in 2005, providing the necessary amount of teams can find the relevant amount of finance - and meet the October deadline - Saturday witnessed the last ever F3000 Championship race, after 19 years.
Fittingly, Liuzzi, who has won seven races this year, a new season record, in addition to nine poles, also tied the record of seven career wins with Juan Pablo Montoya and Nick Heidfeld.
There is much speculation as to Liuzzi's future, with several F1 teams showing a keen interest.
The Italian tests for Sauber at Jerez on Thursday.
