Although it was accepted that there would be no tobacco signage on cars competing in the inaugural Chinese Grand Prix later this year following China's signing of the World Health Organization's Convention on Tobacco Control, it now appears that there will be no tobacco signage anywhere within the circuit.

The State General Administration of Sport (SGAS) today announced that there will be no tobacco hoardings around the circuit nor within any of the facilities, including VIP areas such as the Paddock Club.

The decision follows a proposal by Prof. Fang Jiqian, of the Zhongshan Medical Sciences University in south China's Guangdong province, and also a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).

Chinese oil giant Sinopec is the title sponsor of the inaugural event.
