Euan Sarginson, top fashion photographer in New Zealand and the lensman who captured all action on (and off) the track during the hey-day of the Tasman Series in the 1960s, died Friday after a six-month battle against cancer.

He was a fiesty, bearded Jenks-like character, and good friends with all the overseas drivers of the day. Sarge's photographs graced Peter Greenslade's "Autosport" reports of the Tasman races. A dedicated car man, his garage at various stages housed a a Mk V Jaguar, an MGA Twin-Cam, a Porsche 356, and one of the original tiny-motored 2CV Citroens that he bought in Surrey and shipped to New Zealand, claiming it cost him £150 but was really on £50-worth of car since it was fitted with a new £100 radio.

He would later say "Old cars are like old movies...they're no bloody good..."

On visits to Britain we would always arrange a lunch with Jenks at the Barley Mow. The pair shared opinions and were short on patience with people in the motorsporting world they regarded as lightweights or posers.

Euan is survived by his wife Min, daughter Alice and son Finlay.
