F1 commentator's future in doubt?

NEWS STORY
14/09/2010

Writing in the Daily Mail, Charles Sale, claims that BBC F1 commentator Jonathan Legard could be dropped at season end.

Sale claims that doubts about Legard's suitability are being expressed by the BBC's "top brass", with co-commentator, and former F1 driver, Martin Brundle said to be keen to see the Englishman booted out in favour of Australian MotoGP commentator Charlie Cox.

While Sale claims that Legard retains the "support of other members of the BBC Grand Prix" team, a quick trawl of the internet suggests that such a move might prove hugely popular with fans.

To quote Lewis Hamilton's gilfriend's band, the Pussycat Dolls, who sang 'Be Careful What You wish For 'Coz You Just Might Get It', many fans - after years of complaining about James Allen - feel that Legard is even worse. Indeed, only yesterday a regular Pitpass reader sent in the following e-mail:

"I know that Shakespeare himself would struggle to coin new terms to describe the depth of Legard's ineptitude; however, have you got any suggestion as to what we - license payers - can do to make our voices truly heard? I have written endless complaints to the Beeb but to no avail.

"I am ready to bet on my sacred parts (...) that I am not the only one finding himself in such a predicament. His shallow commentary, his pointless emphasis of nothingness and his relentless, constant anti-Schumacher bias is well and truly spoiling what is an otherwise brilliant, brilliant season. I pay my license fee because I want to enjoy F1, not have visions of myself wielding an executioner axe.

"What can we do? Can we start a petition? Is it just me?"

Fully empathising, all the Pitpass team could do was admit that once we hear Legard on Saturday afternoon it's a toss between muting the volume or hitting the speed-dial and calling The Samaritans.

For once, we are in total agreement with Mr Brundle.
